The City & Guilds Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Workplace is designed for individuals who want to become qualified Assessors and support the delivery of work-based qualifications within their chosen occupational sector.
QSP Training provides this award to promote best practice and ensure Assessors have the knowledge and practical skills required to assess learners competently, confidently and in line with national assessment standards.
This qualification combines essential theory with hands-on assessment practice, giving trainee Assessors the opportunity to develop a strong understanding of assessment principles and demonstrate their competence in real work environments.

How is this Qualification Delivered?
The qualification is delivered across three half-day training sessions, led by an experienced QSP trainer. Sessions may be delivered at QSP’s training centre or on site, depending on the needs of the learner and the units being completed.
Trainee Assessors must have access to two learners who are undertaking a work-based qualification, as practical workplace assessment is required to complete the award.
Delivery includes:
Unit 1 – Knowledge and Principles of Assessment
A structured classroom session covering:
Principles and requirements of assessment
Types of assessment methods
Planning assessments
Involving candidates in the process
Making assessment decisions
Legal and good practice considerations
Unit 2 – Assessing Occupational Competence
Learners will:
Build a portfolio of workplace evidence
Carry out real assessments using a range of assessment methods
Be observed by their allocated trainer assessing one of their candidates
Receive ongoing guidance and feedback throughout the process
All course materials are supplied by QSP Training, and full guidance is provided on their use.
