 Environmental Permitting Regulations (England and Wales)

Waste Management Licensing Regulations (Northern Ireland)

The award is suitable for both single-stream hazardous waste activities and wider hazardous landfill operations.

How Is the Qualification Delivered?

The qualification is assessed entirely in the workplace, allowing candidates to complete the award with minimal disruption. Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence, gathered through normal day-to-day responsibilities on site.

This practical assessment method ensures the learner demonstrates real competence in their working environment.

What Does the Qualification Cover?

Learners complete eleven mandatory units and select one optional unit, covering areas such as:

Health and safety in the waste and resource management industry

Managing environmental impacts

Leadership and management in the workplace

Movement, sorting and storage of waste

Managing disposal operations for hazardous waste

Procedural compliance

Emergency planning and response

Managing regulatory inspections

Restoration and aftercare of landfill sites

These units ensure the learner can competently manage all operational, environmental and compliance aspects of hazardous landfill activities.

Entry Requirements

This qualification is open entry. Learners do not need any prior qualifications, but they must be employed in a suitable operational role or have access to a working hazardous landfill environment, as assessment is carried out on the job.

What Happens After Completion?
